The New Jersey Building Officials Association has named Maplewood Construction Official Robert J. Mittermaier as this year’s recipient of the Inspector of The Year award.

Mittermaier, who announced his retirement earlier this year, received the honor at the association’s Building Safety Conference in Atlantic City, accompanied by Maplewood Mayor Vic DeLuca. He was also the recipient of this award 25 years ago.

Mittermaier is retiring in June after 32 years of service to Maplewood.

“That’s a long time,” wrote Maplewood Committeewoman India Larrier in an email. “He has seen us through a lot of projects. It’s been a pleasure working with him — even through some of our more difficult ones. He’s earned a well deserved retirement, and I certainly wish him all the best.”
