From the South Orange Public Library:
As the South Orange Public Library celebrates 150+ years of service in the Village, the library also articulates a vision for the future. The Connett Memorial Library Building, next door to the current library, is wrapped in scaffolding in preparation for a roof rehabilitation project being undertaken by the Village, supported with funding from the Essex County Recreation & Open Space Trust Fund 2014 Local Aid program.

This historic library building, built in 1896 with a back wing added in 1930, can with complete rehabilitation become part of the library of the future. The vision of the Library Board, articulated in a library plan developed with community input and funding from a Garden State Historic Preservation Trust Fund grant, is to create a link between these two library buildings – a link which provides entry, a place of meeting and greeting, and access to all of the extended and updated community spaces created. Situated in the literal and figurative heart of the Village, the library is committed to working with the Village and all Villagers to refine and realize this vision.
We are having a grand Birthday Bash on September 17 (as part of Stay & Play weekend), from 2:30-5:30 pm and there will be tours (for adults) of the Connett Memorial Library Building.
