It might be hard to contemplate with the freezing temperatures and seemingly endless snow, but it’s time to start planning for spring gardening season.
If you would love to grow a garden but don’t have space of your own, the South Orange Community Garden might be the answer.
Registration is now open for the 2015 season. Spaces are limited — there are 48 raised-bed plots, and once they are gone, they are gone.
The fee is $70. Bring proof of South Orange residency to The Baird along with your payment. Once you have registered, and you will be contacted by email with more information.
Work in the garden will begin in mid-March, according to a message posted by South Orange Trustee Walter Clarke, and plots will be assigned after that so that planting can begin in late March.
Here’s more information:
You must pitch in on the upkeep of the common areas of the garden as well as your own plot. New this year, you must donate at least 10 percent of your harvest to local food banks. When you sign up, please volunteer for a garden committee: The leadership, fixit, food bank and social committees really need your help. Pick at least one and plan to participate this season.
