The South Orange Historical and Preservation Society (SOHPS) and South Orange Public Library will co-sponsor “South Orange & Its Colorful History,” an afternoon of fun and scholarship that is open to the public, held at South Orange Middle School on Saturday, Nov. 1 at South Orange Middle School (SOMS).
Come celebrate local history, the state’s legacy, and South Orange’s young scholars at this symposium.
The day’s program considers the deep and colorful history of the Village of South Orange, from the Lenni Lenape to Montrose Park to New Jersey’s Diners. Local notables, including author Naoma Welk and Newark Museum Director Ulysses Grant Dietz, will speak. In addition, the two SOHPS scholarship winners, Columbia High School students Abigail Baker and Jared Loadholt, will share their award-winning essays.
The event is open to the public for some or all of the day. There is a suggested donation of $5.
