The 33rd annual QuickChek New Jersey Festival of Ballooning takes flight this weekend (July 24-25-26) at Solberg Airport in Readington, NJ and is really worth the trip. The three-day event, the largest summertime hot air balloon and music festival in North America, features twice a day mass ascensions of 100 sport and special shaped hot air balloons from around the world; a live concert series; fireworks; a nighttime hot air balloon glow; a 5K race; children’s amusement rides; and hundreds of crafters and vendors.

This weekend, you have a chance to take a trip to Crossford, England back in time during the 1500s. You don’t need a time machine, because the players of the New Jersey Renaissance Faire are bringing their interactive theater to the Oskar Schindler Performing Arts Center (OSPAC) in West Orange for the annual New Jersey Arts Incubator Renaissance Faire on July 25 and 26. Entertainment abounds with acrobats, fire breathing, Shakespeare and music as well as the action of comedy sword fighting and drama at the Faire. You can also peruse the wares of the fine craftsmen that bring the village to life.

Enjoy an evening of one act plays directed by Suzanne Trauth at Luna Stage in West Orange on Friday and Saturday night. In EXILED by Elaine Insinnia a nursing home resident is exiled to her room for bad behavior and three resident friends pull out all the stops to spring her. OFF-BALANCE by Rosa Soy tell the story of three former college friends who gather for a birthday party and instead of trivial pursuits, end up with truth or dare.
