Three retailers will be opening up shop within the next few months at The Gateway in South Orange, the mixed-used luxury residential and retail development at 9 W. South Orange Avenue.
The building features 57 one- and two-bedroom apartments and 9,100 square feet of retail space divided into three spaces.
Mara’s Bakery will be open by May 1, said Ed Ayuso, principal of EEA Industries, LLC, the property’s developer. The bakery is currently hiring for the location. “It’s almost done,” said Ayuso in a phone interview Monday. The sign went up Monday and awnings will be installed later this week. An official opening and ribbon cutting all take place later in May.
D&I Fitness will be moving to a larger space — and maintaining its current location on Scotland Road — by the end of June, said Ayuso. The Gateway location will offer teen fitness, speed and agility training, sports performance training, group and private training. The gym will be equipped with state-of-the-art exercise equipment including a turf track and a Muay Thai kickboxing ring. The Scotland Road location will become D&I Kids.
The newest tenant is Y Gallery Salon, a high-end unisex hair salon that has a location in Manhattan’s Soho. “The [salon] owners [Yoni Kreger and Yaniv Levi] moved to South Orange last year, and have seen what’s going on in the town” and wanted to be a part of it, Ayuso said. “South Orange is a place that can warrant this type of salon. We need it [and] we don’t want to lose people to businesses in Maplewood and Millburn, when they can shop and stay right here.”
