The State of New Jersey Division of Taxation will auction off the liquor license that formerly belonged to the proprietor of Highland Place Bar & Grill, which shut its doors over the summer.

The license was seized from the former owner — which is listed on the state website as Nilsatis, Inc. t/a Highland Place — because of unpaid state taxes, according to the website.

In August, owner Chris Farrow told The Village Green he was determined to reopen the troubled restaurant.

“Highland Place has a lot to offer; there is no one else around offering the same thing,” he said, adding that he was enthusiastic about “taking it forward.” The restaurant never re-opened, and Farrow did not respond to further attempts to contact him.

The public auction will take place on Thursday, Dec. 4 at 10 a.m.  at the Division of Taxation in Newark. The bidding will begin at $50,000.
