Editor’s note, Sept. 14, 8:30 p.m.: the memorial service for Marcia Worth-Baker will be held at Morrow Memorial Church in Maplewood on Sunday, Sept. 20 at 2:30 p.m.
Marcia Worth-Baker, a beloved local journalist and educator, passed away suddenly last night at St. Barnabas Medical Center.
Marcia was a cancer survivor who had successfully battled breast cancer several years ago. According to a friend, Marcia was having trouble breathing yesterday when she was taken by ambulance to St. Barnabas, accompanied by her husband David. Her cause of death is not yet known.
Marcia is survived by her husband David and their three children.
Marcia was a contributor to The New York Times, a freelancer for VillageGreenNJ.com, spent years writing and editing for Matters Magazine and was the local editor of South Orange Patch, making it the go-to local source of news for South Orange residents during her tenure. Marcia also worked as an educator at Newark Academy and, more recently, at Far Brook.
Marcia was beloved by all who knew her. She was a person of immense compassion and humility, thoughtful and kind in all her actions. Our hearts are broken.
Her good friend Sybil Archibald has started a meal train. Here is the link: https://www.mealtrain.com/
This story will be updated when we have information about Marcia’s services.
