Letter: Chisholm-Greene and Laskowski Will Tackle District’s Serious Issues

To the Editor:

I am proud to endorse Narda Chisholm-Greene and her running mate Mike Laskowski for the Board of Education of the Maplewood and South Orange School District.   I believe the Board needs new members who will vote independently and make sound decisions that will lead our district to excel in all areas. Their slogan, Advocates for All, is meant to share their belief that every child in our district deserves the best educational experience possible. I believe both Narda and Mike, who are products of our school district and have chosen to raise their families here, are best suited to tackle the serious issues this district faces at the present time.

I have known Narda for 14 years and during that time we have developed a close friendship that began on the soccer field watching our daughters play Cougar Soccer. From our earliest days on the sidelines, I was impressed by Narda’s commitment to her family and her amazing energy. Narda has five children and a demanding job. Yet, she put herself through graduate school and always made sure that her own children’s academic success came first. She still never missed one of her children’s games, concerts or other activities.

Narda has volunteered in the schools and educated herself so that she could be a strong advocate for her children’s success. When CHS was short of Midnight Madness volunteers a few years ago, she volunteered and convinced me to help out at this all night event. The following year when our sons were seniors, she volunteered to co-chair the same event. In addition, she serves on the CHS Cougar Boosters Board and uses her vacation time to help out at the Golf Outing each year.

For years, as friends, we have shared our experiences of the school district, both the positives and negatives, and I have witnessed her strength and positivity even when frustrated by roadblocks to success. She perseveres until she achieves the desired outcome. She seeks out advice when she has questions and listens to opposing viewpoints in order to make the best decision. She now wants to be the same strong advocate for all of the children in our community.  I can think of no better person to serve the children of Maplewood and South Orange on the Board of Education than Narda Chisholm Greene.

In addition, while I have only known Mike for a few months, I have found him to be principled and direct. He will add another independent voice to the Board which is sorely needed at present. He and his wife are raising 4 children in his hometown and his commitment to the community and to our schools is clear to me. His profession as a recruiter and experience as a coach will serve him well on the Board and frankly, because Narda has faith in him and has chosen to run with him is the best character reference I could receive.

When you go to the polls on November 6th, you will have 8 candidates who have offered you a choice. They are all fine people and we are fortunate to live in a community where so many people get involved and want to make a difference. I hope you will join me in choosing Narda Chisholm- Greene and Mike Laskowski, Advocates for All.  I believe they are the best candidates to serve at this important time in our district.
