The project, which was completed in the fall, was part of the 2025 AARP Community Challenge Grant Program which funds innovative, quick-action projects that inspire long-term change in public places, transportation and more. 

NJ-11 Congressional candidate Tom Malinowski, an immigrant and South Orange resident, spoke at the event, urging protestors to tell their legislators not vote for a bill to fund ICE, even if it means shutting down the Department of Homeland Security for a couple of weeks.
