The following is from the South Orange Maplewood School District:
Open enrollment in South Orange Maplewood Public Schools begins this February for the 2017-2018 school year. Kindergarten early registration will take place from 2/13-3/23; early pre-school registration will take place from 2/6-2/9 (afterwards by appointment only until May 1, 2017); early high school registration from 4/3-4/6; and, open registration for ALL GRADES begins May 1. If you do not register during one of these early periods, you must wait until May 1st for the all grades enrollment.
Children of residents, who will be five 5 years of age on or before October 1, 2017 are eligible to enter Kindergarten in September 2017. Children must be 3 or 4 by October 1, 2017 to be eligible for Pre-School.
Registration packets for the 2017- 2018 school year will be available starting mid-January 2017. Packets may be picked up at the Office of Registration or downloaded from the District’s website. Parents/Guardians must return completed registration forms, along with originals of all required documents, in person to the Office of Registration located at 525 Academy Street, Maplewood.
Kindergarten at Seth Boyden Demonstration School
Parents/Guardians who live outside the Seth Boyden zoned district and wish to have their child attend Kindergarten at Seth Boyden must submit a Seth Boyden Kindergarten Student Transfer Request Form (also available on the District’s website). Placement in Seth Boyden is not guaranteed and is contingent upon the enrollment in the child’s home school; on whether a sibling already attends Seth Boyden; and the reasons stated on the request form. Placement in Seth Boyden Kindergarten will be confirmed by May 2017.
KINDERGARTEN PARENT INFORMATION SESSION– January 28, 10-11 am
The Parenting Center & the Elementary PTAs will also hold an information meeting called “The Q&A About The ABCs of Kindergarten” on Saturday, January 28, 2017 10:00am—11:00am Seth Boyden Elementary School 274 Boyden Avenue ~ Maplewood, NJ 07040
The hour-long session will begin with a brief overview of what to expect in Kindergarten followed by a Q&A session. Parents will have the opportunity to meet a few of the elementary school principals and assistant principals as well as a number of PTA presidents. They will be happy to answer any questions that you may have about kindergarten, elementary school, and the South Orange Maplewood School District. If you can’t attend, don’t worry—there will be many opportunities this spring and next fall to tour your child’s new school, meet the educational staff, and have your questions answered.
