South Orange – Maplewood Cares About Schools, a Facebook group, hosted a South Orange – Maplewood Board of Education debate Wednesday night at The Baird Center. The five candidates running were present: James Davis and Stephanie Lawson-Muhammad (who are running on a ticket together), Susie Adamson, Tony Mazzocchi and Johanna Wright.
South Orange Village President Sheena Collum and Maplewood Mayor Vic DeLuca moderated. Questions were selected from submissions to the SOM Cares Facebook page.
Questions included: PARCC testing; how the district can improve communication; the merits and disadvantage of the Common Core curriculum; the adequacy of the World Language program and suggestions for improving it, and how to address the district’s budget issues.
