Committee members agreed to the measure as the township continues to study traffic & pedestrian safety on Prospect.

The mayor is urging residents to attend two upcoming township meetings to express concerns: Engineering, Public Works & Planning at 8AM, October 9, and Public Safety at 7:30PM, October 9.

The young woman, who was walking toward her vehicle, reported being approached by three juveniles, one of whom brandished a knife and said, “Let me get in the car.”

Additionally, a residential burglary of keys from a home in Hilton led to a motor vehicle theft on 9/17; Maplewood & Union police later arrested one 18-year-old suspect.

Nonetheless, residents should report bear sightings to local police — particularly if the bear is aggressive.

“This is a way in which we can do our due diligence as a municipality to be sure that if a property has historic preservation potential, we have time to review it,” said TC member Vic De Luca.

The investigation was conducted by the Maplewood Police Department, the FBI and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. The juvenile is currently being detained at the Essex County Youth Detention Facility in Newark.
