Residents of Maplewood and surrounding towns can donate gently used plastic toys through April 19 at a Rutgers Street location, simultaneously keeping used toys from out of landfills while helping disadvantaged kids.

Maplewood is one of only five New Jersey 1-800-GOT-JUNK? locations taking part in a massive Northeast toy drive. In fact, there are only eleven franchise locations involved across the region. The event is all in support of Second Chance Toys and just in time for Earth Day on April 22.

“We are so pleased to be increasing our involvement in 2015,” says Drew Trautman, owner of the 1-800-GOT-JUNK? franchise in northeast New Jersey and a Board Member for Second Chance Toys. “To be able to give back on this level is staggering and our goal for next month’s events is to deliver over 1,500 toys to children in need throughout the Northeast region.”

Local residents can drop off gently used plastic toys at 201 Rutgers Street in Maplewood, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. from Saturday, April 11 through Sunday, April 19.

2015 marks the eighth year that 1800GOTJUNK? and Second Chance Toys have teamed up to help children in need. To date, 1800GOTJUNK? has helped transport over 100,000 toys to disadvantaged children. This year, eleven 1800GOTJUNK? locations servicing areas in Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington D.C. will be hosting concurrent toy drives across multiple days.
