The Table, a new restaurant and catering facility in South Orange Village Center specializing in Southern and Caribbean cuisine, celebrated its opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony last Thursday.
Chef owner Alton Henry — formerly of Da Kitchen on Springfield Avenue in Maplewood — expressed excitement about his new location with its generous interior space. Henry and his event planning staff are already booking birthday parties, bar and bat mitvahs, and other celebrations.
On the menu? Everything from baskets of sweet potato cornbread, to Southern-style fried chicken, to sweet and spicy guava BBQ ribs, to Caribbean-style curry chicken — and much, much more. Desserts include passion fruit creme brulee, coconut carrot cake, old fashioned peach cobbler, double chocolate cake and blue velvet cake. There’s also an “on the go” menu for take-out dinners.
Henry calls the atmosphere “hip and trendy” but with “unpretentious elegance.”
The ribbon cutting attracted a number of Village Center leaders including Bob Zuckerman and Matt Glass of the South Orange Village Center Alliance and Trustees Walter Clarke, Stephen Schnall and Howard Levison.
