The South Orange – Maplewood Board of Education (BOE) is asking stakeholders to complete an online survey to help guide the district in its search for a new superintendent.

The board released the survey this week, as part of its efforts to reach out to the community through focus groups and online forums as it moves ahead with seeking a replacement for Brian Osborne, who left last month to become superintendent of the school district of New Rochelle, NY.

The search takes place at a time of turnover in the district, as well as an election for three new Board of Education members.

The board has been holding focus groups with Dr. Leroy Nunery of Hazard, Young & Attea, the search firm the district has engaged, for members of the South Orange Maplewood Education Association (SOMEA) teachers’ union, according to BOE President Beth Daugherty in a news release.

The board will hold a meeting for the special education community on Thursday, July 10 from 8-9 p.m. In addition, said Daugherty, the President’s Council has been invited to meet with the consultant on Thursday from 7-8 p.m.

Saturday, September 13 will be a day full of in-person focus groups and open forums for stakeholders, and evening sessions will also be held in September in order to reach as many stakeholder groups as possible, said Daugherty.

Daugherty said feedback from stakeholders through the survey, focus groups, and community forum will be compiled into a profile which will be used as a tool in screening potential candidates.
