Friday night is Rent Party night! The monthly party was founded in 2009 in conjunction with the South Orange Elks, to benefit food pantries and fight hunger in SOMA. This weekend will feature Dollar Store Riot, The Porchistas, and Heroes of Toolik. It’s sure to be a great night and all of the dough raised helps fight hunger in our community!

South Orange native Joshua Braff is back in town (he currently lives in California) to do a reading from his latest novel The Daddy Diaries at Words in Maplewood on Friday night. The Daddy Diaries is a humorous and poignant novel about a relationship between a stay at home dad and his two preteen kids.

The Third Annual Hat City Streets Festival Returns to the Valley Arts District in Orange & West Orange on Saturday, June 13. Go make a hat or wear your favorite hat, experience music that will get you grooving and dance that will get you moving — and enjoy great food, and family activities! The Festival is a day-long cavalcade of live music and dance performances, visual art exhibitions, and non-stop fun that celebrates the spirit and diversity of the region.

The 2015 North Jersey Pride Festival—a family-friendly event that brings together LGBTQ and Straight Ally individuals, couples and families from all over the state—is the place to be on Sunday. The festival in Maplewood features a live stage with superb national and local talent; a huge Rainbow Kids Zone with inflatables, face painting, arts & crafts, along with a brand new Interactive Kids Stage with the Lizard Guys, story time, relay races, gymnastics, martial arts demos, and more; 100+ exhibitors and merchant/artist vendors; and the famous Five-Star Food Court featuring the best of our local New Jersey eateries. Admission is free and all are welcome!

If you like Fox’s Glee, you will love the Paper Mill Playhouse Broadway Show Choir on Sunday at SOPAC. Over the past three years the show choir, consisting of nearly 50 performers, has delighted more than 250,000 people across the region with their rousing renditions of Broadway, pop, and classics. This song and dance extravaganza will feature production numbers from your favorite Broadway shows including Newsies, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Carousel, Kiss Me, Kate, Annie, Sister Act, and more. Showstoppers from the big screen including Pitch Perfect, Disney’s Cinderella and High School Musical plus pop favorites by Michael Jackson, Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga, Pharrell, and The Beatles.
