Update, 4/16, 9:30 a.m.: A Seton Hall University spokeswoman confirmed that Merisier was a former graduate student and former adjunct professor at the university. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Frantz Merisier on this tragic loss,” she said.
The man struck and killed Tuesday evening by a New Jersey Transit train near the South Orange station has been identified.
Frantz Merisier, 34, a resident of the 900 block of Sanford Avenue in Irvington, was the victim, said a New Jersey Transit spokeswoman on Wednesday afternoon.
Merisier was struck at around 5:19 p.m. east of the South Orange train station, by a New York Penn Station train bound for Summit. The incident led to delays on the Morris & Essex line.
Merisier was taken by ambulance to UMDNJ in Newark with life-threatening injuries, and was pronounced dead by The Essex County Medical Examiner. The NJ Transit spokeswoman had no further details on the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A LinkedIn profile of someone matching Merisier’s name and address shows a graduate student and Adjunct Professor at Seton Hall University’s School of Diplomacy and International Relations. The Village Green has reached out to Seton Hall representatives to confirm whether Merisier was an employee there.
