Writers! Artists! Studio B wants YOU!
Studio B, a local arts enterprise that recently became a non-profit organization, is hot on the trail of writers and artists of the local variety.
On Saturday, October 24th, Studio B will host its popular Story Slam! At the Burgdorff Center for the Performing Arts. A five-minute storytelling competition, the Slam has been a sell out event since Co-Honchos Marcy Thompson and Jenny Turner Hall kicked it off five years ago. Writers are encouraged to put their name in the (literal) hat, and – if called – deliver their best short work.
Stories can be written or extemporaneous, and don’t have to follow any particular theme. The only rule? Keep it under five minutes. Local literary agents serve as judges, and announce a winner at the end of the evening. 12 names will be called in total. Heather Cross, author of the newly-released Wilberforce, and first Slam winner, will be making a special appearance on the 24th.
Studio B is also calling all artists, crafters and pickers who would like to sell their high-quality wares at the third annual Holiday Bizarre Bazaar. Applications are being accepted through October 30; 40 artists will be chosen in total. This year’s sale will take place on December 6 from 10:00am – 4:00pm at the Woodland.
With many hundreds of attendees, the Bazaar has become a wintertime favorite for shoppers looking for unique, locally-produced gifts. Of course, a visit to the Bazaar wouldn’t be complete without getting a picture taken with the charming and handsome Abominable Snowman – who will be making a special appearance again this year. Check back on the Village Green for more details.
