July 4th is a blast in South Orange. The Department of Recreation & Cultural Affairs has planned a day of family fun in and around Meadowland Park and the Community Pool.
The pool will be open to ALL SOUTH ORANGE RESIDENTS on July 4th, 10am to 8pm. Proof of residency (I.D. Badge, drivers’ license or utility bill) will be required at the gate. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Baking Contest
Enter your cake or pie in our 1st annual 4th of July bake-off! Entries are limited to 15 in each category. To enter, send an email to recreation@southorange.org with subject line ‘bake-off’, your name and category (cake or pie) BY 12PM FRIDAY. Cakes/Pies will be dropped off at the pool between 11:30am-12pm Monday, July 4th with judging to follow.
Kids field events/races on Cameron Field
9-10 am for ages 3-6, 10-11am for ages 7-12
To participate, email recreation@southorange.org, subject line ‘races’. Include participant name/s and age/s.
Ping Pong Tourney at the Pool
11am for age 10 and under, 12pm for ages 11-17, 1pm for age 18 and over

Hot Dog Eating Contest at 2:30 pm for ages 10 and Over
To enter, email recreation@southorange.org, subject line ‘hot dogs’. Include name/s and age/s.
King of the Cornhole, 3:15 pm Start
2-person teams in 2 age groups (17 and Under and 18 and Over)
To enter, email recreation@southorange.org, subject line ‘cornhole’. Include team names and age/s.
There will also be South Orange Seaport Model Boats at the Duck Pond, swim races at the pool, a water slide on Cameron Field 12-4pm sponsored by the S.O. Parking Authority, a Photo Booth at the pool 12-4pm, Sand Art for kids at the pool 12-3pm, and specials at the pool snack bar.
