If you think the air is getting just a little bit colder, and you are beginning to dream of snowflakes, mistletoe and dreidels, it must be because Maplewood Village is getting ready for its official start of the holiday season. Dickens Village will open with Santa’s arrival and the lighting of the Christmas Tree this Saturday, December 3rd, followed by the Menorah lighting on December 27th.
The Dickens Village Houses will open for the first viewing this season from 1pm to 5pm this Saturday, December 3rd. The Maplewood Fire Department will provide Santa with transportation that day as well, bringing him to Ricalton Square at 1pm, where he will visit with and pose for photographs with children (and adults if so desired) from 1:30 to 3:30. You’ll enjoy music by the Jefferson School Chorus 2 pm and holiday selections by DJ Jimmy B throughout the afternoon.
A formal program will commence at 4:00 and conclude at 4:30 with the lighting of the Tree and a traditional story read by Maplewood Mayor Vic DeLuca.
Additional activities, music and open houses for viewing continues on Saturdays December 10th and December 17th. Kids can enjoy horse and buggy rides, reindeer, a petting zoo, carolers and more. On Monday night December 27th at 6:15, also in Ricalton Square, the Township will light the Village Menorah to celebrate Hanukah and celebrate with prayer and song.

“Tradition is at the heart of the winter holidays – a tradition that reminds us of how fortunate we are to live in Maplewood and how much this tradition and sense of place is appreciated by others who visit our Town during the holiday season,” offered Rosetta Weiser and Ellen Davenport, Dickens Village Committee co-chairs.
“You can see firsthand Maplewood’s past in these wonderful events – but also the future as new generations of families embrace all that our village has to offer and more people come in to sample the best of the holidays from our distinctive shops and restaurants.” said Julie Doran, Manager, Maplewood Village Alliance.
