Seth Boyden School wrapped up its year-long centennial celebration on Saturday, June 14, 2014, with a Strawberry Festival and Centennial celebration.

Principal Mark Quiles played the role of Seth Boyden, the 19th century inventor. The Chorus sang a hit song from 100 years ago (“Alexander’s Ragtime Band”) and today (“Let It Go,” of course), and attendees enjoyed fresh strawberries, strawberry art, a silent auction, jam-making, and strawberry shortcake.

Strawberries have a special significance at Seth Boyden School. Seth Boyden, who was a Hilton neighborhood resident late in life, was responsible for developing a strawberry hybrid that was grown in the area. The school also has extensive outdoor gardens which are utilized in teaching the students about nutrition, biology and other subjects. The garden is named Strawberry Fields.
