To the Editor:
I am writing to voice my strong support for the candidacy of Annemarie Maini for the Board of Education.
I first met Annemarie five years ago when I was choosing a preschool for my son. Over the years, she has become a good friend and an invaluable resource. Annemarie is engaged in many aspects of the South Orange/Maplewood community. She understands the ins and outs of the school district and has a clear sense of what is working and what isn’t working, but most of all Annemarie cares about this community. She loves these towns and she believes in this district. She sees the shortcomings and the unmet objectives, but instead of just complaining about them, she wants to be a part of the solution.
In their campaign declaration, Annemarie and Chris Sabin call for a district where, “students’ needs are the first, middle and last things we think about when pondering every issue.” Isn’t that what we all want? Isn’t that the point of education? Unfortunately, that isn’t always how decisions are being made. With Annemarie on the Board, I believe that will change.
It was Annemarie’s focus on students’ needs and her desire to make success a reality for all students that convinced me to entrust the earliest years of my children’s education to her. And these are the same reasons she has my vote for Board of Education.
Please join me in putting students’ needs first and voting for Annemarie Maini on November 3.
