Dharmvir Gehlaut, Frank McGehee and Hans Hummel have submitted applications seeking the endorsement of the Maplewood Democratic Committee in the race to replace Township Committeeman Marlon K. Brownlee.
Brownlee announced earlier this year that he would not seek re-election.
MDC Chairman Ian Grodman described the three applicants as follows:
- Dharmvir Gehlaut is a 12-year resident who lives on Highland Place with his wife and two daughters. He teaches high school math in New York and lists community organizing and journalism as past experience.
- Frank McGehee is a three-year resident who lives with his wife and daughter on Carleton Court. McGehee works in marketing, serves on the Maplewood Memorial Library Foundation Board, the Tuscan School PTA Executive Board, and as a Trustee for South Orange Maplewood Community Coalition on Race. (McGehee has already received online endorsements from Township Committeeman Greg Lembrich and former Mayor Fred Profeta.)
- Hans Hummel is a 16-year resident who lives with his wife and three kids on Girard Place. Hummel works in marketing and has experience serving on Maplewood Pool Advisory Committee and as a Coach for the Cougar Soccer Club.
McGehee was among eight who applied for the endorsement last year when two seats were up for election (the committee endorsed Jerry Ryan and Nancy Adams, Ryan lost in the primary to Greg Lembrich, and Lembrich and Adams were elected in November).
Grodman said that the full committee will meet to interview each of the candidates formally and will make an endorsement on March 21.
The primary takes place on Tuesday, June 7.
