The Able Baker on Maplewood Avenue, which plans to expand into the former Dempsey Chiropractic office space next door, is scheduled to have its change of use request reviewed at a special meeting of the Planning Board on September 17.

The owners of Able Baker need the change of use approved before they can move ahead with construction. The bakery was originally scheduled to have its case heard before the Maplewood Planning Board on Sept. 8.

However, that date has now been reserved for the continuation of the site plan review for the applicant Maplewood Redevelopers Inc., the developer for the proposed Post House project, as well as a discussion on the appeal lodged by the Village Keepers Inc. against the Maplewood Village Alliance.

In response to a request from The Able Baker’s owners, the board has scheduled a special meeting for Thursday, Sept. 17, at 8:30 a.m., according to Planning Board secretary Adele C. Lewis (see agenda attached as a PDF below). Lewis explained that a quorum of five board members is needed for a meeting. Board chair Tom Carlson clarified that five is the quorum for the Planning Board for all its activities, “irrespective of how or when the meeting is scheduled.”

The Post House site plan hearing began on Aug. 12 and continued at a special Aug. 31 meeting. The Sept. 8 meeting is the third part of the hearing.
