It is the time of the year for both South Orange and Maplewood residents to renew their parking and jitney permits. Here’s what commuters need to know.
South Orange
Parking permit renewals will be accepted by the South Orange Parking Authority beginning Dec. 1. Permit holders should have received a renewal letter and application.
Renew in person at the SOPA office on the second floor of the Baird Center (5 Mead Street), Mon. – Fri., 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. To renew by mail, include completed application, photocopies of all required documents, a check and a self-addressed stamped envelope.

Jitney permits – valid for the calendar year – can be renewed by filling out the application, and bringing it along with a current utility bill in your name and address and a valid Photo ID (driver’s license with photo and/or current recreation card), to the Parking office. Renewals must be done in person.
A 12-month jitney pass is $150. The application can be found here. For more information and schedules, visit the South Orange website.
Maplewood
Parking, jitney and parking jitney combo permits can be purchased beginning Friday, Dec. 19 at the Maplewood Township Clerk’s office, Town Hall (574 Valley Street). The office will be open until 8 p.m. that night.
The prices for 2015 are : Parking: $210.00 Parking/Jitney Combo: $232.00 Jitney: $92.00.
