Each Memorial Day, Maplewood Memorial Post 10120 Veterans of Foreign Wars organizes a Memorial Day parade and service graced with small-town charm and filled with big-hearted American patriotism.

Led by the VFW, the parade features the Columbia High School marching band, boy scouts, troops of brownies and girl scouts, elementary schools, parade floats, classic cars, the South Orange Elks, the South Mountain YMCA, Maplewood Community Music, the Kiwanis’ Duck, and more.

Brining up the rear: The South Mountain Peace Action Group.

At the post-parade ceremony, patriotic tunes are sung and war dead are remembered. This year, Mayor Victor DeLuca gave a speech in which he noted, “Today we praise the warriors but we do not praise war itself. The men and women we honor on Memorial Day fought for peace in their time and for generations to come.”
