The following is from a post on Nextdoor West Montrose:
Dear Families,
As we prepare to celebrate the Labor Day Weekend with family, friends and food, we ask that you remember those in our community who do not have access to food and are living with food insecurity.
During the week of Tuesday, September 8th to Saturday September 12th, the Newstead Neighborhood Association and other neighborhood associations across South Orange are conducting a food drive to support families who are living with food insecurity.
We are collecting food for the two food pantries in our community: St. Joseph Food Pantry and Our Lady of Sorrow Food Pantry. Donated items can be dropped off (or left on the porch) at the home of Kanani Briggs at 66 White Oak Drive.
Unfortunately, during the summer months as people are away on vacation, the shelves in these pantries become bare. Please join your neighbors in filling the shelves again. Children are back in school and we all know that children learn better when they are not hungry. So please help us make this a successful food drive by donating the following unexpired items:
- Canned vegetables
- Dried pasta
- Canned fruit
- Tomato sauce
- Canned soup
- Canned pasta meals
- Dried or shelf stable milk
- Canned tuna, chicken, sardines, chili, or beef stew
- Beans (canned or dry)
- Peanut butter
- Non-perishable desserts
- Jelly or jam
