He’s the guy from central casting for the part of the pub owner. With his snowy white hair and twinkling Irish eyes, John Meade doesn’t disappoint.
More than a decade ago, Meade made all of Maplewood forever grateful by opening his pub — St. James’s Gate Publick House — on the site of a former men’s clothing store.
In the time since, Meade’s pub has been the centerpiece of the regeneration of Maplewood Village and his largesse has helped charitable causes in Maplewood, Essex County and beyond.
The Maplewood Chamber of Commerce recognized Meade’s many contributions with its 2016 Distinguished Service Award at its annual dinner on Thursday night at the Maplewood Country Club.
