S. Orange Police Make Arrests in Alleged Burglaries to Cars, Car Theft

South Orange Police made arrests in two separate vehicle-related incidents this week.

Police arrested Elijah Harden, a 24-year-old Irvington resident, on October 20 at approximately 11:15 p.m. after officers responded to a call of a suspicious person possibly entering vehicles parked at a complex in the area of Mews Lane. An officer responding to the scene saw Harden fleeing the scene on a bicycle, said police. After the officer stopped Harden, they discovered that several vehicles had been entered and that Harden was allegedly in possession of an item stolen from one of them, police said.

John Shapinski, a 28-year-old from Monmouth Junction, was arrested on October 24 at around 11:05 a.m. after an officer on routine patrol saw him allegedly operating a vehicle on Vose Ave. that was reported stolen out of South Brunswick, police said.

Criminal mischief
A Ridgewood Rd. resident stated that on 10-25-15 at approximately 11:00pm an unknown actor(s0 had thrown a rock into one of his front windows breaking same.

Attempted theft
An Irvington resident that on 10-22-15 at approximately 1:05pm he was walking west on South Orange Ave. in the area of South Kingman Rd. when an actor came up behind and attempted to grab his laptop from him. The victim stated that he turned to confront the actor and the actor fled the scene on foot. The actor is being described as a dark skinned male, approximately 6’0″ in height, around 20 years of age and was observed to be wearing a long sleeve white shirt and dark sweat pants.

Theft of jewelry
A South Orange resident stated on 10-5-15 at approximately 11:00am she was working out at gym on Lackawanna pl. when an unknown actor removed a wedding band and an engagement ring she had placed on a table while working out.

False Public Alarm/arrest
Taye Criss, an 18 year old Irvington resident was arrested on 10-21-15 at approximately 11:20am after Detectives determined that he was the actor responsible for making an non-specific bomb threat over the internet. The subject was placed under arrest at his place of residence, transported to police headquarters and processed accordingly.

Warrant arrest
Montrell Ayers, a 29 year old Elizabeth resident was arrested on 10-22-15 at approximately 8:55am after he was stopped for committing a motor vehicle violation on Irvington Ave. During the subsequent stop the subject failed to cooperate with the officer conducting the field inquiry and obstructed the officer in his lawful duties to accomplish same. Further investigation by the officer revealed that that the subject had an outstanding warrant issued for his arrest out of the township of Edison.
