Maplewood Community Pool lifeguards made an emergency rescue Thursday when an 11-year-old boy had trouble resurfacing during Clinton Elementary School’s pool party.
After going down the enclosed pool slide, the boy was unable to keep his head above water and had trouble resurfacing, according to an email from Joseph Manning, Maplewood Township Administrator. When the child did not respond to a friend tapping him on the shoulder, a lifeguard blew her whistle and activated the Emergency Action Plan.
Emergency Medical Services were called and brought the child to Beth Israel Hospital in Newark, NJ for further medical care.
Manning said no further details were available about the rescue or the child’s condition. The Village Green has reached out to Maplewood police and fire officials and the First Aid Squad and will update this story as more information becomes available.
