On Sunday, October 25, 2015, the Social Action Committee and Miriam Sisterhood of Oheb Shalom will present a panel on gun violence prevention. Members of the panel include: Richard Martinez, whose son was killed in the shooting at University of California, Santa Barbara in May 2014; and Brett Sabo, an active volunteer with a non-partisan grassroots movement that mobilizes families to advocate for stronger gun laws. The third member of the panel is to be announced soon.

The program will begin at 9:30 am. Brunch will be served. There is no cost for this program, but we do ask for RSVPs at www.ohebshalom.org. Open to the community at large.

The second program will be the screening of Living for 32, a documentary by Colin Goddard, a survivor of the Virginia Tech shooting, at the SOPAC Loft in South Orange, New Jersey on Thursday, December 3, 2015. Mr. Goddard plans to be in attendance for the screening and participate in a Q&A session after the movie. Open to the community and there is a $5 registration fee, payable at www.ohebshalom.org or at the door on the night of the event.

The third program will be a Moms Night Out “Be SMART” Campaign in the spring of 2016. Be SMART attempts to reduce the number of unintentional shootings that occur when children find an unsecured firearm.

Founded in 1860, Oheb Shalom Congregation is a Conservative egalitarian congregation located in South Orange, New Jersey.
