On April 1, the South Mountain YMCA said a big “thank-you” to Girl Scout Brownies Troop 20874 of South Orange and Maplewood for presenting the Y with a check for $200.
The South Mountain Y was chosen by the girls as their “Charity of Choice” during this year’s cookie sales and presented Executive Director James Goodger with the check for $200 on Friday. According to the Y, the funds for the Annual Support Campaign will “help support the Y’s goal to make sure every child can benefit from YMCA programs and camps.”
Of course, behind every great Brownies troop are great Brownies parents. In this case, the grownups leading the charge are: Marta Rodin, Troop mom, Y mom and Annual Campaign storyteller; Jen Scheerer, Troop mom; and Terri Fowlkes, Troop mom, co-and YMCA Board member.
The YMCA was suitably impressed. “What a great way to teach about the importance of giving!” posted Goodger on Facebook.
