American Classics Book Discussion Series
Maplewood Library’s new book group meets monthly to discuss provocative and often controversial titles.
Convener: Alice Crozier, Professor of English Emerita, Rutgers University, New Brunswick
The October titles are:
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, by Mark Twain AND the essay “Romancing the Shadow” (from the book Playing in the Dark, by Toni Morrison)
A seminal work of American Literature that still commands deep praise and still elicits controversy, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is essential to the understanding of the American soul.
Both titles are available through BCCLS. A Reader’s Guide, which includes the essay, is available at the Main Library circulation desk.
Thursday, October 1 7:00 pm at Main Library
This program was made possible by a grant from the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Any views, findings, conclusions or recommendations expressed in this program do not necessarily represent those of the National Endowment for the Humanities or the New Jersey Council for the Humanities.
