The Next Big Thing: How Podcasting is Changing Radio

Thursday, Sept 13 7 pm at Main Library

WNYC’s Nancy Solomon will moderate a panel of top producers discussing the state of the podcasting industry, where it’s going and its current and anticipated impact on radio. Panelists include: Julie Snyder, producer of This American Life and Serial; Lee Hernandez, producer of Audible podcasting; Tony Phillips, VP of On-Demand Content for WNYC Studios; and Erik Diehn, CEO of Midroll and Stitcher.

Julie Snyder is the co-creator of Serial, the Peabody Award winning and most-listened-to podcast. She is a senior producer for This American Life, one of public radio’s most popular shows that is also a leader in the podcast listenership.

Lee Hernandez is a producer of original content for Audible. Previously, Lee produced Morning Edition for WNYC and worked for Nevada Public Radio.

Erik Diehn is the CEO of Midroll, the parent company of Earwolf, a maker of some of the most popular podcasts on the market, and Stitcher, a listening platform. Earwolf distributes more than 300 podcasts, including including WTF with Mark Maron and The Bill Simmons Podcast.

Tony Phillips is the vice-president for on-demand content at New York Public Radio and is a former Commissioning Editor at BBC Radio 4 and the World Service.
